After Forever … forever

Uhhhh, almost a month with no new posts … well, even when I don’t dislike the last Nightwish work, I prefer Tarja’s ones, so I was looking for a group that really appealed me as Nightwish once did. I had listened before to After Forever, but I’m now increasingly enjoying it to the point that I love this group.

Fresh and funny fantasy

I like to read all kind of books about a lot of different subjects, but I often do read periodically some new or already read fantasy novel, so I’m always in the search of new ones to increase my choice and my joy. I discovered recently two novels by Silvana de Mari (from Italy) that I’ve liked a lot: The Last Elf (called The Last Dragon at U.S.) and The Last Orc (sequel to the previous one).

Real poetry from a fictious writer

It is time for a poem again, and this time, I’m including some extracts from the poems of a non existent poet at all, it is William Ashbless. Why am I doing so ? Well, I like both of the writers that own this fiction (James Blaylock and Tim Powers), and I need some poetry to include in here. So here it goes some poetry from Sir William Ashbless (1785-1846), that’s it, if he had existed at all.

All right, I am happy this month for some different causes, and among these ones, there are three interesting software related ones: OpenBSD 4.3, Slackware GNU/Linux 12.1 and Mandriva Spring 2008 GNU/Linux.

Debian Etch and Pure-FTPd

All right, I am a Slacker (from Slackware) at heart, so I dislike a GNU/Linux distribution as much as it packages its software in a different manner as the original compiled source code. So it shouldn’t be a surprise for you if I told you that I really hate some Debian package distribution around the filesystem. As an example, it is Pure-FTPd (we could talk about Apache2 too), which could perfectly go at a file such as /etc/pure-ftpd.conf but in the case of Debian Etch, it is splitted into a lot of small files at /etc/pure-ftpd/conf directory … I’m posting in here one of my configurations so I don’t forget about the files or the values.

Uhhhhhhh ! Time flies indeed ! How many days without a post ! The search engine indexers (aka Google ? This is a thing that’s starting to worry me, Computers are not Windows, and Internet is not Google !) may even have started to think this weblog was dead. After all, wasn’t it dead anytime ? We’re all born to die, and that’s exactly the same for every human and each human project, isn’t it ?

Yesterday, after having a mail system (Postfix with AMaViS, MySQL and the so) working for some time without any trouble, it started to fail, well I should say that it started to get enormous mail queues, and as I began to test it, I got some strange errors such as Temporary lookup failure, deferred mails, 451 write error or disk full … and a lot of small things that made me wonder where the real failure was.

I was this afternoon finishing the setup of a Debian GNU/Linux FTP box, and when I thought I had it all okay, with Pure-FTPd (MySQL mappings) and PuRE FTPD User Manager installed (through Apache web SSL site), things started to go wrong.

Yeah ! Poetry’s touched my heart again. This time I’m including in here a poem by a young writer (you can read more about her at the Uiquipedia) from my country and from my very own land. The English translation is mine (I don’t even know if I should have dared to try doing it), so please, expect to find it far less interesting than the original one, which I’m posting here too. I’m doing it so, both because I don’t trust myself for these translation purposes and both because it is far nicer in its native language: Asturian (from Asturias, at Spain). I’ve found this poem at MundoIconoclasta site (mostly Spanish and Asturian weblog).

Have you ever found a perfectly mail server working installation to stop delivering messages with an error that tells you something like this: Too many retries to talk to /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl (Can’t connect to Unix socket /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl: No such file or directory) ?
